how can anyone believe the bible as historical fact

Even if they were written 50 years after the fact, that doesn't mean they aren't credible. It would be less likely for them to be factual if they were written say 150 years after the fact, but they aren't. I know that there are other sources out there, this one that I cited was something I read recently. And even though the king did modify the bible, it can't be far from the original version of what was written. There has to be at least some truth to what's written. Yes, if you look at very close details, there are differences between versions but the main ideas are all the same.by KRM at

Um, hate to say KRM, but the gospels as we know them were mostly written at least 50+ years after the fact and then converted to the use of whomever wrote that version of the bible. Case in point would be the King James Version of the bible. The line "thou shall not suffer a witch to live" was not in the original text. It was added at the kings bidding. Do not only rely on what has been written now on the subject, do dig for historical records from other in the same time period. Another case in point is that Jesus was not raised in Galilee as written due to the fact his religious and political beliefs do not remotely match those of people raised there at the same time. Roman documents and even court documents from king Harod's reign show examples of this..by anonymous at

Because the gospels were written by eyewitnesses during their lifetime. If someone back during biblical times found out that there were people recording what was going on, they would have been brutally murdered. Why would you risk your life, and the lives of your family for a lie? And 11 out of 12 disciples were killed for their faithfulness to Jesus Christ. Why would they have done that?
The bible is the most accurately perservered document in history with over 24000 manuscripts dating back to 1 or 2 original versions.
There are so many prophecies being fulfilled right now, like jews converting (Jews for Jesus) and Israel becoming an independent nation. Along with the natural disasters that were to occur before Christ's return.
48 prophecies written in the old testament about the son of God were fulfilled by Jesus in the new testament. The odds are 1:1 Trillion of any one person fulfilling all of them.
I'm not trying to convert anyone. Just giving you guys some facts that this post appeared to be looking for. They come from The Case for Christ, written by Lee Strobel. He was a devout atheist and had the same question as you guys did. Even if you don't really believe, it's an interesting read. Hope this finds you well.by KRM at -
Exactly.
The nomadic judaic tribes, the rebellions against the romans, the names of kings, a lot of the family trees, names of battles etc are completely historically accurate: they have been independently ratified.
Take, for instance, the letters of St Paul. Are you saying that these letters never existed? Or that they were never sent? Of course they were.
As for the supernatural parts, who knows? But I know for once I'd like to meet an informed atheist...by anonymous at -
Because a lot of it is. It's just at the supernatural parts that things get iffy.by anonymous at
